Lookup Hunterdon County Inmate Records

Hunterdon County inmate records are accessed through a county current-population report instead of a conventional jail roster search with profile pages. To look up Hunterdon County inmates online, start with the public active-charge report, then use the booking desk, Warren County jail rules, state prison locator, VINE, federal systems, or an OPRA request when the report does not answer the question. Hunterdon County, New Jersey records are split between local processing, contracted jail housing, court case systems, and state or federal custody databases.

Hunterdon County Jail Roster Overview

Hunterdon County does not publish a standard searchable jail roster with name fields, booking-number filters, mugshot tiles, or inmate profile pages. The official public channel is the Current Population & Active Charges page, which links to a dated PDF report. The report inspected for the research was dated June 18, 2026. It showed a current population count and a separate Home Detention Program count, then listed each person by name, HC number, active charge description, and bail field. That makes Hunterdon County inmate records more like a compact active-charge index than a full booking database.

The second local fact matters just as much as the PDF format. Hunterdon County says people are processed at the Hunterdon County Correctional Facility and then transferred to Warren County Jail under the January 2020 housing contract. For a current Hunterdon County jail roster search, the first step is the county PDF. For visit, mail, phone, money, and bail procedures after transfer, the practical facility is Warren County Correctional Center. Sentenced state prisoners are not found in the Hunterdon report, even if the case began in Hunterdon County.

The official Hunterdon current-population page appears in the manifest as a successful capture from the county source. The Hunterdon active-charge landing page screenshot shows the public PDF route and the booking contacts used when timing or status matters.

That page is the proper starting point because it is the county's own custody-report channel, not a third-party scrape or a commercial background-check page.

Use Hunterdon County Inmate Records

The Hunterdon County inmate record workflow is simple, but it is not the same as typing into a roster search box. Open the county current-population page, download the PDF, and use the browser or PDF viewer find command. A last name is the most useful search term. An HC number is better when known because the active-charge report uses that local custody identifier. The county warns that charges and bail are subject to change, so the PDF should be treated as a report snapshot, not a real-time release order.

  1. Open the Hunterdon County Current Population & Active Charges page and choose the PDF report link.
  2. Use the PDF find tool to search by last name, first name, or HC number.
  3. Read across the row for the listed name, HC number, description, and bail field.
  4. If the person is not listed, consider release, transfer, state sentence, federal custody, ICE custody, or pending local processing.
  5. For urgent current status, call the Hunterdon Booking Desk or the Corrections Undersheriff contact listed by the county.
  6. For visits, mail, telephone access, accounts, or bail posting after transfer, use Warren County Correctional Center procedures.

Recent arrests may not align neatly with the PDF. Hunterdon's Booking Desk is staffed at all times, and the Sheriff's Office also handles prisoner transport to court, other New Jersey counties, and out-of-state warrant returns. That transport role is one reason a person may appear in one system for custody, another system for court charges, and a third system for facility rules.

Hunterdon County Roster Search Fields

The Hunterdon County inmate records source is a static PDF, so the "search fields" are columns in the document rather than form inputs. There are no sort buttons, profile links, tabs, login prompts, or export tools in the public report. The useful technique is to search the PDF text and then confirm status by phone if the result affects a visit, bail payment, or time-sensitive release question.

Field LabelTypeRequiredNotes
LAST NAMEPDF text columnn/aSurname of the listed person; use PDF find because no web form exists.
FIRST NAMEPDF text columnn/aGiven name in a separate column.
HC NUMBERPDF text columnn/aHunterdon custody identifier, shown as HC plus digits in inspected examples.
DESCRIPTIONPDF text columnn/aPlain-language active charge description, often abbreviated.
BAILPDF text columnn/aShows no-bail language or a dollar amount when listed; verify before acting.
Home Detention Program countPDF header countn/aA separate count near the top, not a searchable inmate-profile field.

Because the report does not have a public booking-date field, it cannot prove the exact intake time. It also does not prove the final court charge. Jail entries are active corrections data; court records must be checked in the court systems after filing.

Hunterdon County Inmate Profile Fields

The sample Hunterdon County inmate record is not a profile card. It is one row in the active-charge PDF. That row can answer basic current-custody questions, but it leaves out many details that readers expect from larger jail roster systems. The most important omission is the lack of a mugshot or booking photo. The report also omits date of birth, booking date, housing unit, court date, arresting agency, and clickable details.

FieldWhat It Shows
NameLast name and first name in separate PDF columns.
HC NumberHunterdon custody identifier, useful when calling or requesting records.
ChargesActive charge description such as contempt, DWI, fugitive status, aggravated assault, or CDS-related wording.
Bond or BailThe bail column may show no-bail language or an amount, but the county warns the value can change.
MugshotNot shown in the Hunterdon current-population PDF.
Booking DateNot shown in the public report.
Housing UnitNot shown; Hunterdon says inmates are transferred to Warren County Jail after processing.
Court DateNot shown; use NJ Courts systems for case dates and filed charges.

For a deeper photo and booking-photo discussion, the Hunterdon County jail mugshots page separates the official no-photo inmate report from wanted-person photos and OPRA request limits. That distinction prevents a wanted entry from being mistaken for proof that someone is currently in jail.

Hunterdon County Inmate Contacts

The fastest official fallback for a current Hunterdon County inmate record is still a phone call to the corrections contacts published by the county. Use the PDF first when a broad name check is enough. Use the Booking Desk when the question involves a new arrest, transfer, release timing, or a person not yet visible in the public report. Warren County should be used for the facility rules once the person has been moved there.

Hunterdon County Custody Lookup Paths

Hunterdon County inmate records should be routed by custody type. The county PDF is for current Hunterdon corrections population and active charges. NJDOC is for sentenced state prisoners. BOP is for federal inmates from 1982 to present. ICE ODLS is for people currently in ICE custody or, in some cases, CBP custody more than 48 hours. VINE is a custody-notification layer, not a jail roster.

Custody distinction: A Hunterdon arrest can start in the county report, move to Warren housing, later appear in NJDOC after a state sentence, or leave the county jail path entirely if federal or immigration custody controls.

State and Federal Record Fields

The alternative locators have their own search logic. NJDOC supports name and identifier searches and warns that offender information can change quickly. BOP offers name and number searches for federal custody. ICE ODLS requires either an A-number and country of birth, or a biographical search with name, country of birth, and birth date. These systems do not replace Hunterdon County inmate records; they answer different custody questions.

NJDOC's official locator is also available as a captured manifest image. The New Jersey incarcerated-person search screenshot shows why this belongs to sentenced state custody rather than Hunterdon County's active-charge PDF.

Hunterdon County OPRA Requests

When the Hunterdon County inmate records PDF does not show the needed record, use a targeted public-records request. Hunterdon County routes OPRA requests through County Counsel and the NextRequest portal. A strong request names the record sought, the person's full name, the arrest date or date range, the HC number if known, any complaint or case number, and the agency likely holding the file. Ask for a "booking record" or "booking record and booking photograph, if disclosable" only when that is the actual record needed.

New Jersey OPRA makes government records accessible unless an exemption applies. The Government Records Council also notes that arrest circumstances and bail information can be disclosable, but law-enforcement, victim-sensitive, privacy, and security exemptions can still lead to denial or redaction. Court case files should normally be requested through NJ Courts, not through a county OPRA request, because court records follow court access rules.

The manifest includes Hunterdon's public-record portal. The Hunterdon NextRequest OPRA portal screenshot shows the Make Request entry point for records that are not already in the active-charge report.

Use OPRA as a fallback, not as a substitute for checking the current PDF and calling the booking line for live custody questions.

Hunterdon County Jail Facilities

The facility map for Hunterdon County has three distinct roles. Hunterdon County Correctional Facility is the local processing and corrections-administration point. Warren County Correctional Center is the contracted housing site and the primary jail facility for practical inmate services. Edna Mahan Correctional Facility is a state prison physically in Hunterdon County, but it is operated by NJDOC and does not serve as the county's pretrial jail.

Hunterdon County Booking Process

After an arrest in Hunterdon County, the person is processed through the Sheriff's corrections operation. Booking creates or updates the HC number that may appear in the active-charge report. The sheriff's public materials also describe prisoner transportation to and from the Hunterdon County Correctional Facility, between New Jersey counties, from outside New Jersey, and to court hearings such as bail hearings, status conferences, trial, and sentencing.

If the person remains in custody after Hunterdon processing, the county says the inmate is transferred to Warren County Jail. Warren then handles classification, housing level, intake telephone paperwork, visitor list creation, and other facility-based rules. Warren classifies inmates to minimum, medium, or maximum security areas. During intake, Warren allows unlimited telephone calls for up to 72 hours or until movement to general population, depending on cooperation with correctional and medical staff.

Hunterdon County Inmate Visitation Rules

For Hunterdon inmates transferred to Warren County Correctional Center, Warren's visit rules control. The published rules tie visits to the inmate's approved visitor list, which the inmate completes during intake. Visitors should arrive early for screening and should expect space, time, resources, security rules, and housing assignment to affect the available visit. The captured research did not include a full housing-area schedule in text, so do not assume a day or time without checking with Warren.

Note: Confirm custody and visit status with Warren before travel because Hunterdon's PDF does not publish housing or visit schedules.

Contact Hunterdon County Inmates

Mail, telephone, and account rules follow Warren County Correctional Center once the person is transferred. Mail should include the sender's name and address, the inmate's name and number, and the Warren facility address. Books and magazines must come directly from the publisher. Money orders may be mailed when they include sender information, but personal checks and cash should not be sent. Warren lists many prohibited mail items, including postage stamps, sexual photographs, clothing, excess items, blank envelopes, and envelopes with stickers, crayon, lipstick, or foreign objects.

Warren's telephone system starts during intake. Inmates complete an Inmate Telephone Authorization Form, then receive a PIN for ongoing phone use. The approved list may include 10 family or friend numbers, three bail-bond agency numbers, and private attorney numbers. Family, friends, and attorneys open phone accounts through the provider at 1-866-230-7761. Calls are generally available from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. except during meals, counts, emergencies, or staff-restricted periods.

Hunterdon County Inmate Funds

Accepted mail deposits include money orders, cashier's checks, government checks, and checks from other correctional facilities. Personal and payroll checks are returned to sender.
